چکیده

Lattice Monte Carlo and off-lattice molecular dynamics simulations of h1t4 and h4t1 ~head/tail! amphiphile solutions have been performed as a function of surfactant concentration and temperature. The lattice and off-lattice systems exhibit quite different self-assembly behavior at equivalent thermodynamic conditions. We found that in the weakly aggregating regime ~no preferred-size micelles!, all models yield similar micelle size distributions at the same average aggregation number, albeit at different thermodynamic conditions ~temperatures!. In the strongly aggregating regime, this mapping between models ~through temperature adjustment! fails, and the models exhibit qualitatively different micellization behavior. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1461355#

Hydraulic fracture propagation: analytical solutions versus Lattice simulations

In this work, we used a grain-based numerical model based on the concept of lattice. The modelling was done to simulate the lab experiments carried out on the mortar samples. Also the analytical solutions corresponding to the viscosity-dominated regime were used to estimate the fracture length and width, and the results obtained were compared with the numerical simulations. As the analytical so...

DNA brick self-assembly with an off-lattice potential.

We report Monte Carlo simulations of a simple off-lattice patchy-particle model for DNA 'bricks'. We relate the parameters that characterise this model with the binding free energy of pairs of single-stranded DNA molecules. We verify that an off-lattice potential parameterised in this way reproduces much of the behaviour seen with a simpler lattice model we introduced previously, although the r...

Simulation of Micro-Channel and Micro-Orifice Flow Using Lattice Boltzmann Method with Langmuir Slip Model

Because of its kinetic nature and computational advantages, the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has been well accepted as a useful tool to simulate micro-scale flows. The slip boundary model plays a crucial role in the accuracy of solutions for micro-channel flow simulations. The most used slip boundary condition is the Maxwell slip model. The results of Maxwell slip model are affected by the ac...

Critical micelle concentration in three-dimensional lattice models of amphiphiles

Amphiphilic molecules with hydrophobic tails and hydrophilic heads form micelles of various shapes and sizes above a minimum threshold concentration known as the critical micelle concentration (CMC). The CMC as well as the size and the shape of the aggregates formed depend on various factors, e.g., the length of the amphiphiles, their internal rigidity, and temperature. In this letter we report...

Charge gradient effects on modulated dust lattice wave packets in dusty plasma crystals

Nonlinear Dust lattice modes are studied in a hexagonal two-dimensional dusty plasma lattice, in presence of charge gradient of dust particles. In this lattice, such gradients affect nonlinear behavior of dust lattice waves. The amplitude modulation of off-plane transverse dust lattice wave packets is investigated considering the anisotropy of interactions, caused by the height-dependent char...
